Assisted death became legal in New Zealand on November 7, 2021. The legislation, formally known as the End of Life Choice Act 2019, was passed by Parliament in 2019. It only came into force following a binding public referendum that was held alongside the 2020 general election, where it was approved by 65.1% of voters.
